Create a blank a black document and fill it with black. Download the metal surface texture here. Place it on the document and down the opacity to 30%. Then, open the Layer Styles panel and give it a Color Overlay style.

Ten Golden Tricks
- Hitting Tab hides all of your palettes. Hitting Tab again brings them back.
- Shift+Tab hides all the pallets except your toolbar.
- Hitting the "D" key resets your color pallets to Black foreground, White Background.
- The "X" key will toggle your foreground and background colors.
- Use CMD+Delete to fill your layer or selection with the current background color.
- Option+Delete fills your layer or selection with the foreground color.
- Change your paintbrush circle into a crosshair for precise control by pressing the Caps Lock key.
- Double-Click the ruler on the top or side of your document brings up the Units & Ruler Dialogue box. (handy if you work in both print and web)

Create an Animated Steampunk Robot in Photoshop

As promised in my previous post on creating an animated GIF in Photoshop, here is a tutorial on creating one from scratch. You will learn a lot more tricks in this tutorial so I hope you will stick through to the end. Well, we are just going to make an animated robot -- with steampunk flair!
Just note that the colors/gradients mentioned in the steps are simply suggestions. You need not follow the exact values unless you want to achieve the same effect.
And.. although I won't be saying it throughout the tutorial, don't forget to save your PSD file from time to time! With that said, let's begin!
